Triumph is setting its sights on dominance in the middleweight sports touring segment with the introduction of the new Tiger Sport 800, priced just below £11,000. This exciting model is slated for arrival in showrooms by March 2025, effectively bridging the gap left by the discontinued Tiger 850 Sport, and slotting neatly between the popular Tiger Sport 660 and the Tiger 900 range.
The Tiger Sport 800 is designed to deliver an ideal balance of performance, offering more power and torque than its predecessor, the 850, while mirroring the output of the old Tiger 1050 Sport, which was retired in 2021.
Power and Performance
At its heart lies a robust 798cc flat-plane triple-cylinder engine, producing an impressive 113bhp and 62lb.ft of torque. Triumph emphasizes real-world performance, showcasing that 90% of the engine’s peak torque is available throughout the mid-range, making it competitive with Yamaha's Tracer 9 series and BMW's F900XR.
Interestingly, the new powerplant shares some components with Triumph’s 765cc engine, notably the 78mm bore. However, with a longer 55.7mm stroke and various design tweaks, the 800 is distinctly more than just an enlarged version of the Street Triple engine.
Chassis and Handling
Triumph has adeptly integrated the 800 triple into the familiar chassis of the Tiger Sport 660, maintaining the same overall dimensions. This ensures an approachable 835mm seat height and preserves the nimble handling characteristics that riders appreciate in the smaller model.
While the frame and swingarm are retained, the Tiger Sport 800 features upgraded suspension. A Showa setup with 150mm of travel front and rear, alongside fully adjustable 41mm upside-down forks and a rear monoshock with rebound damping and hydraulic preload adjuster, ensures a smooth ride, whether solo or two-up with luggage.
Braking and Wheel Specs
Braking performance is provided by radial-mounted four-piston front calipers gripping 310mm twin discs, complemented by a single-piston rear caliper and 255mm disc. With a weight of just 214kg, this combination keeps the bike agile and responsive.
Designed as a dedicated road-focused tourer, the Tiger Sport 800 is geared for long rides with comfort at its core. It features upright seating and a large, easily adjustable windscreen, along with standard air deflectors to enhance rider protection from the elements.
With a claimed fuel economy exceeding 60mpg, the 18.6-litre fuel tank promises nearly 250 miles of range, assuming it runs completely dry.
Customization and Features
For those looking to personalize their ride, Triumph offers over 40 accessories, including an Akrapovic slip-on exhaust, heated grips, and a comprehensive luggage system that integrates seamlessly with the bike’s design.
Safety and technology are also top priorities, as the Tiger Sport 800 comes equipped with a six-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) for cornering-optimized ABS and traction control. Riders can select from three riding modes—‘Road’, ‘Rain’, and ‘Sport’—to adjust throttle response and electronic intervention based on conditions.
Additional features include standard cruise control, a bi-directional quickshifter, and a TFT display that supports smartphone connectivity via the My Triumph Connectivity System for turn-by-turn navigation, phone calls, and music control.
With an attractive starting price of £10,995, the Tiger Sport 800 will be available in four colors: Sapphire Black, with optional hues of Graphite, Cosmic Yellow, and Caspian Blue at an extra cost.
